Responsibility

When you hear the word Sustainability, what thoughts come to your mind?
We’d like to know, so e-mail, write, call, tweet, or just drop by… we’d love to hear your thoughts on this.
Here’s our take:
At Century Farm and Century Farm Eco Market, we believe that Sustainability equals Responsibility.
Sustainable and Eco-Farming practices allow Local Farmers the ability to meet today’s needs with the highest quality, most tasty and nutritious organic produce… without sacrificing successive yields or depleting the soil of the nutrients necessary to provide for future harvests and generations.
Beyond Organic
By now everyone knows… or, at least, everyone should know… that purchasing the meat of industrial-raised livestock and poultry results in serving up dinner for ourselves and our families that contains a measurable amount of synthetic hormones, chemicals and antibiotics.
Yuck!
And we also know that many of the vegetables on the SuperStore shelf are loaded with pesticides and herbicides, grown in scientifically modified conditions, then harvested early— picked by who-knows-who from who-knows-where long before the full flavor and nutrient content is maximized, and finally shipped from somewhere we’ve never heard of an average of 1500 miles before hitting the store shelves and being picked over by everyone and their brother!
Double yuck… it’s easy to understand the desire for Local Organic produce!
But just as all Sustainable Farming is not Organic… all Organic Farming is not Sustainable. Indeed, there are those who practice organic methods— yet they neglect the care and nurturing of their land.

Sustainable Farming, or Eco-Farming as we call it here at Century Farm, is about regenerating and feeding the soil— creating a nutrient-dense environment that ensures that you and your loved ones will receive the highest-quality Organic produce that is available locally. Period.
Imagine taking the time and patience and planning and effort to seed entire fields with high-nutrient plants and grasses like clover, alfalfa and rye grass— not to harvest— but just for the purpose of turning them over and feeding them back to the earth.
That is our commitment at Century Farm…
a commitment to Sustainability and Responsibility.
It is our commitment to you.
